DEARBORN -- President Barack Obama touted the comeback of the auto industry and other successes during his term at the first of two fundraising stops in Metro Detroit today

Obama spoke to a crowd of about 600 at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn -- home of Ford's world headquarters -- and encouraged supporters there to help finish what we started in 2008

"Because of what you did in 2008, we've begun to see what change looks like," Obama said. "200,000 new jobsover the last two and a half years. The American auto industry is back and that happened because of youinvestment in usa

Obama also mentioned the capture and killing of terrorist Osama bin Laden -- "Osama bin Laden no longer walks the face of this earth," he said -- the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, the return of soldiers from the Middle East and changes to student loan payments for millions of borrowers

"The last thing we can afford to do is to go back to the very same policies that got us into this mess into the first place," he said

Obama briefly referenced Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's controversial "let Detroit go bankrupt" statement, while also chastising Republican

"They're wrong. I have no doubt they love their country, but they're wrong about this," he said

The enthusiastic crowd frequently applauded throughout Obama's remarks, snapping photos and chanting "four more years" intermittently

"We love you, Obama!" one woman yelled. "I love you, baby," the president responded

Obama's next Detroit-area stop is a fundraising dinner at the home of Denise Ilitch in Bingham Farms

"If you're willing to keep pushing with me...there is nothing that will stop us," he said
